Amsterdam’s Nuit Blanche

26.September 2013

Our Journey

If you’re a lover of art, theatre and all things a little different, then you should head along to Amsterdam’s Nuit Blanche. Taking place on the 28th of September from 7:00 PM until 7:00 AM, this nocturnal cultural festival promises lots of weird and wonderful fun.

It is no surprise that this unique art festival is taking place in Amsterdam, the Netherland’s creative and cultural centre. This city is renowned for its art, architecture, nightlife and liberal approach to life.

The Nuit Blanche originates in Paris and it was quickly adopted by many cities across the globe. The event is now in its fifth year in Amsterdam and the team behind it appear to have put a lot of effort into making this year’s the most strange and exciting.

The Nuit Blanche will be held at a number of weird and interesting locations around Amsterdam, though the majority of the events will be taking place in the Red Light District and its surrounding areas. Some notable locations to visit during the Nuit Blanche are the Oude Kerk, the Tobacco Theatre and De Brakke Grond.

If you’re going to be taking part in the Nuit Blanche, then we recommend visiting SYNCity at Industrieele Groote Club. It’s described as a multi layered micro cityscape; a futuristic microcity that is inhabited by performers. It’s designed to inspire and surprise you during your tour by the city’s mayor; prompting you to think about SYNCity’s future.

Food has always been an important part of Amsterdam’s Nuit Blanche and this year is no exception. The event features an array of culinary delights from the world of herbs and plants with medicinal properties and those that were deemed blasphemous. There will be a number of chefs and experts there to demonstrate how narcotics, tobacco and beer are easily incorporated into traditional dishes.

If you’re travelling into the city to attend the Nuit Blanche, Accorhotels have a number of hotels in Amsterdam. The hotels are situated in various locations around the city and are suitable for a range of budgets so you’re sure to find something suitable for you.

The Nuit Blanche is definitely an event you should visit if you can. If you’re a lover of art and culture, then the Nuit Blanche is the perfect excuse for a vacation to Amsterdam.
