Our Journey

As far as cheap holidays go, Malta is up there on the list, but one people don’t tend to consider, for reasons unknown, is its smaller, quieter neighbour, Gozo.

Quiet, chilled out, and the epitome of relaxation, Gozo is fantastic for kicking back and casting away your cares, yet close enough to the liveliness of Malta if the mood takes you.

Slash costs even further, by pre-booking airport parking with Airparks, such as my regular – Birmingham Airport parking. There are so many advantages to driving yourself to the airport, such as no need for expensive taxis and public transport, flexibility, convenience and reliability, and it’s because of all this that I rarely travel without adding this fantastic extra.

With your travel plans sorted, you’ll be in Gozo before you know it. Remember your walking shoes, as the island is quite hilly, yet there are some beautiful walks to be had, perfect for a breath of fresh air. Alternatively, there is a good public transport network around the island, as well as over to Malta, so there’s no excuse not to explore a little.

There are three large resort on the island, namely Ramla il-Hamra, Xlendi and Marsalforn. Victoria is the island’s capital, and it’s here you’ll find the best shopping and restaurants, as well as a beautiful cathedral.

Of course, summer holidays are all about spending time on the beach, whether pebbly or sandy. Time on the beach is probably the most relaxing and enjoyable part of any holiday in my opinion. One suggestion is a boat trip around the island, with Malta in the distance. If you’re into your diving, you’re well catered for her, with the famous Blue Hole fantastic for marine-life.

A holiday in Gozo is never going to be full of action and exhaustion, yet for true relaxation in a beautiful setting, it’s the perfect choice. Night-life is probably is quite low-key too, yet Marsalforn is quite lively, so if you’re into your partying, this is probably the best resort to base yourself in.

Food-wise, the best of the international cuisine is in the capital, with a greater range of restaurants to visit, however in the larger resorts, you’ll be more than catered for, with entertainment also at the bigger hotels.

As you can see, Gozo should never be overshadowed by its more famous neighbour, as it is beautiful in a completely different way. Those cheap holidays to this part of the world will also put a huge smile on your face, and with added extras making the whole shebang even cheaper, there’s no reason not to book and look forward to fun in the sun.

Remember my earlier suggestion of parking your car at the airport to cut costs and reduce stress, with Stansted parking a great choice, with lots of cheap flights out of the capital too. Lots more money saved! Wherever you’re flying from, you’re sure to find a service equally as good value, as most large UK airports will cater for your car’s holiday, whilst you head off on yours!

Gozo is a perfect example of the rule that you should never judge a book by its cover, and you should also always look beyond the shining lights of the larger resorts, as they’re often overshadowing the smaller gems.
