Local Travel: Banff, Alberta

We are lucky enough to live within a couple of hours drive of Banff, in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It’s hard to believe that this international destination is actually in our backyard!

We took some time to visit this weekend.

Our first stop was, not surprising for us, the Banff Avenue Brewing Company.

Where they have a selection of house brewed beers that, I can assure you, are worth the trip. My favorites? The Head Smashed IPA and the Lower Bankhead Black Pilsner.

Adequately refreshed, we took the gondola up to the top of Sulphur Mountain.

The next day we headed to Lake Louise for some skating.

Next time, we’ll try the sleigh.

Believe me when I tell you that my pictures don’t do it justice. It is breath-catchingly beautiful in every season and always worth the trip!

  1. That looks amazing. From the shot of the storefronts, it almost looks a little like this little “Bavarian” town in Washington called Leavenworth? Is it a themed town?

Oh, and I like the size of that beer. ;)

  2. Of our entire RTW trip Banff was one of our favorites. We do get kind of strange looks sometimes we we answer the “What was your favorite place?” question with Banff, Canada. I am jealous you were there in the winter for all the snow, but I can assure you the summer and camping is amazing!

  3. Banff is so pretty. I’ve never gone to Banff in the winter, but this post is making me consider it. I love the ice photo. Was there an ice carving festival on while you were there?
