Even in the winter, you can have a great time outdoors with your family. If you’re stuck for ideas and hoping for some inspiration, we have a few suggestions for you to muse over. Depending on what your family enjoys, here’s an assortment of UK-based days out.

Dickens World

Who doesn’t love Charles Dickens? Around Dickens World, you can learn about the man himself and Victorian England. Habited by actors, it’s an immersive and interactive experience; you can even meet some of Dickens’ characters. It’s likely that your kids will study Dickens at school, at some point, so you can help them get ahead of their classmates, with this fun and informative day out.

Chocolate Tour of London

Unless your kid is one-in-a-million, he or she will love chocolate. Although you will be allowed to sample cocoa heaven on this tour, you won’t be given a lot (you don’t have to worry about your kids going chocolate crazy). Instead, the focus is on the history of chocolate in London. Did you know that a 17th Century hot chocolate was completely different to todays? Previously, it was spiced with gorgeous cacao beans, cinnamon, sugar, cloves, chilli, and squares of chocolate. Mmmmm…

Aber Falls, Gwynedd

Specifically important to the Princes of Gwynedd, this area is naturally beautiful (it is in Snowdonia, after all), so you don’t necessarily need to focus on Aber Falls, if you don’t want to. However, this ramble Falls makes a lovely family walk and there is two miles of buggy-friendly paths, so it’s completely baby friendly.

If your kids are old enough to toddle along on their own, you can take a diversion through the forest, across streams, and up to the valley. You may even see wild horses! Pop into the nearest village for some gorgeous welsh cakes. You’re in Wales. It would be rude not to.

New Forest

New Forest is a charming place to spend a day; it even has its own ponies. Explore the area with bikes or check out the nearby coastline. Expect gorgeous views and board the ferry to reach Hurst Castle and the Lighthouse.

Knowsley Safari Park

Why travel to Africa, when you can get the safari experience in the UK? Knowsley Safari Park has a wide variety of animals to see…but that’s not all. They also have amusement rides, high ropes, animal shows, and a bat forest! For more ideas on what you can do at Knowsley, visit this page on Knowsley Safari Park’s site.

Things To Do In The Lake District

Hire a 4×4 and tackle wild terrain throughout the Lake District. You’ll witness fantastic scenery and will discover out-of-the-way areas, rarely frequented by the tourist horde. If that wasn’t enough, check out the rock climbing options or undertake a themed hike with an audio trail. You can’t go to the Lake District without going for a bit of a walk, can you?
